NC Pre-K and Three School are programs designed to provide high-quality educational experiences to enhance school readiness for eligible 3- and 4-year-old children.

What are the placement criteria for NC Pre-K and Three School?

Participation in NC Pre-K and Three School is based on the allocation of spaces and the child’s priority for placement. Priority for each child is based on several criteria; children who are identified to be at a greater risk receive higher priority for placement. Children who have received no prior early education services outside the home are a higher priority than children who are currently participating in another preschool or child care program.

Where are NC Pre-K and Three School classes held?

NC Pre-K and Three School classes are in 4 and 5 star approved child care centers. NC Pre-K is also part of the Onslow County Schools Preschool at participating elementary schools.

Are Pre-K teachers qualified?

NC Pre-K teachers are state licensed professionals with degrees in Early Childhood Education or a related area of study. Three School teachers are professionals with degrees in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.

What is the difference between Head Start and Smart Start?
