Strong, responsive communities have a waterfall effect on a variety of community outcomes—particularly the futures of young children. A strong, connected, and responsive community benefits all residents through higher educational achievement, economic productivity, citizenship, and improved health. Based on the needs of Onslow County, One Place created Foundations for Resilience.
The Foundations for Resilience program provides nonprofit and for-profit organizations in Onslow County with customized personal and professional growth opportunities and skill building. We offer customizable programming to support professional and community development—so as a team grows stronger, the community does too. Several core themes are available and organizations can combine options to meet their interests, strengths, and areas of growth for their individual team.
Core themes include:
• Personal Growth
• Team Building
• Trauma & Resilience
• Personality Styles & Communication
• Challenging Relationships
Since its launch in the fall of 2022, Foundations for Resilience has served more than 25 agencies and 600 participants at more than 70 events across North Carolina. When asked to respond on a scale of 1-5 on a post-event survey more than 75% of all participants strongly agreed that they “gained skills or knowledge that they could put into immediate use.”
Foundations for Resilience has made a big impact on Onslow County in its first year. The positive changes are evident in the personal stories of growth shared by participants:
Precious Resources Child Care says: “The Foundations for Resilience trainings have been of great benefit to the children and families of Precious Resources. This training opportunity has demonstrated to the staff the advantage of a strength-based approach as well as the importance of building positive family relationships. In addition, as a result of the trainings, we have been able to initiate conversations about the Triple P Positive Parenting Program which serval families have enrolled. I would highly recommend the building responsive communities trainings to any childcare provider.”
Randolph County Partnership for Children says: “We turned to One Place to facilitate a robust training series for us, and they exceeded our expectation in every way…we received great value from the monies invested; and everyone felt their time was well spent. We all certainly agree that the initiative is worthy of investment and support!”
Foundations for Resilience is expected to continue to make a positive impact in the community and expand in many ways. The program continues to evolve to meet the specific needs of Onslow County through the incorporation of community feedback and the addition of new options, like The Energy Bus.
